Mission & Goals

The Department of Family Medicine affirms that every person within our society have the best health care possible and commits its resources to patients, students, scientists, health professionals and its own members to achieve this goal through exemplary family practice, professional education and research. The guiding principles of the Department are the patient-centred approach in community based family practice, continuity of care, comprehensive care, prevention, learner-centred education, faculty development and support, and excellence in qualitative and quantitative research using an interdisciplinary approach.

Goals

To provide through its clinical services, the highest quality of Family Practice care to patients.
To teach all undergraduate medical students those aspects of medicine which family physicians are best able to teach.
To teach postgraduate residents in Family Medicine the knowledge, skills and attitudes expected of certificants of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
To teach graduate students the academic and leadership skills expected of Masters of Clinical Science in Family Medicine.
To ensure available professional development for all faculty and staff in its jurisdiction.
To conduct research into Family Practice.
