Assistance for Residents During Residency

The pressures of a busy residency program, complicated by other lifestyle conflicts, can contribute to a situation of emotional distress during the residency program.

Any resident suffering from undue stress during their program is encouraged to contact:

The resident's personal family physician
The resident's preceptor or faculty advisor
Family Medicine Postgraduate Director or Rural/Regional Program Director
Available Support and Counseling Services to UWO Residents
Ontario Medical Association’s Physician Health Program

If you know that a colleague is suffering from unusual stress, talk to him/her about it - share your own experiences, and suggest that help is available as outlined above.

Confidential Mentorship Program

The UWO Family Medicine Faculty Advisor Program is helpful for most residents, but during your residency there may be a time when you need somoene else to talk to about your questions or concerns. The purpose of the Confidential Mentorship Program is to give residents the opportunity to have confidential menotring if they want it. The topics that are discussed can be personal or professional in nature. The nature of what is discussed will be kept confidential UNLESS there is a safety concern which is raised during the meeting.

The UWO Residen'ts Council has recommended the following mentors. Please feel free to contact them directly to arrange a meeting if required.
