2.0 Community-based

2.0 Family medicine is a community-based discipline Core Rotation Elective Rotation Academic Program Special Interest Elective
Care for patients in different settings        
The resident will be able to:        
2.0.1 K/S Care for family medicine patients in a variety of settings including the office, patients' home, retirement/long-term care facilities, and inpatient ward FM FMH    
 
Principles of home care        
The resident will be able to:        
2.0.1 K/A Describe the importance of home care for the family physician FM, PC X  
2.0.2 K/A Describe the role and importance of the family physician in home care FM, PC X  
2.0.3 K Describe the types of home care (acute, chronic, preventive, palliative) FM, PC X  
2.0.4 K Describe the barriers/challenges to home care for the family physician and ways to overcome them FM, PC X  
 
Caring for the community        
The resident will be able to:        
2.0.5 K Describe common differences in practice patterns of family physicians in geographic areas of differing rurality and reasons for these differences FM UC, FMH X  
2.0.6 K Describe an approach to finding out community resources for the family physician (e.g. specialists, allied health professionals, home care services) FM UC, FMH  
 
Medicolegal, medical/ethical issues relevant to family practice        
The resident will be able to:        
2.0.7 K/S/A Discuss cases presented in Ethics tutorials and work through web-based Ethics modules. X  
2.0.8 K/S/A Discuss with family medicine preceptor on ethical and legal issues that arise during patient care activities in family medicine block time FM
