Out-of-Province Elective

Each resident is allowed one 1-month elective to be taken outside of the province of Ontario.

Mandatory Pre-departure training must be completed through the Global Health office prior to the commencement of an international elective. The scheduling of this training is the responsibility of the resident and residents can contact the Global Health office to arrange the mandatory training. Training is offered in November, February and May of each Year.  Proof of completion can be submitted to the Family Medicine Postgraduate Program Coordinator. Failure to participate in the training prior to departure could result in the cancellation of the international elective.

You are fully responsible for arranging these electives and are responsible for your own travel and accommodation costs. You will continued to be paid during this 1-month elective.

If you intend on taking an out-of-province elective, you can only do this during one of your elective months. (All core rotations must be done at specified sites). Please advise the Postgraduate Program Coordinator as early as possible about your intention of such an elective so that the appropriate scheduling can be arranged.
