Characteristics of Practice
The Centre for Family Medicine includes 12 teaching family physicians. There are 3 sites located in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Wellesley that function in a family health team model along with other health disciplines. There are a wide variety of patients ranging from newborns to geriatrics from an array of many cultures. There are many potential areas of interest that learners may experience with the group such as TB consultations, wart clinics, procedures clinics, house calls, nursing home visits, and mental health initiatives. The Centre for Family Medicine is linked by an extensive electronic health records network with internet access.

Office hours vary depending upon the attending physician. The main teaching site at 25 Joseph Street is open from 8:00am to 7:00pm Monday to Thursday; until 5:00pm on Fridays. Each physician sees approximately 35 patients a day.

Description of Location
The Waterloo Region is located approximately 80 km from London, taking approximately 75 minutes to drive to either London or Toronto. Kitchener and Waterloo are twin cities with the region with a combined population of 300,000. Wellesley, population of 10,000 is a town with the region located approximately 20 minutes from Kitchener-Waterloo. The region is home to the world-class Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, the University of Waterloo, Wilfred Laurier University, and Conestoga College. The region is rapidly growing with a diverse economy based on technology, insurance, manufacturing, farming and education.

Other Information:
The team's mission statement is "To provide exemplary patient care and excellence in trans-disciplinary teaching in a supportive, sustainable environment". There are opportunities to meet learners and teachers from other institutions and disciplines as the Kitchener site also houses teaching facilities for Pharmacy and Optometry in conjunction with the University of Waterloo. Formal teaching procedure rooms are located on-site. A fun, safe environment is fostered by the team's philosophy of collaboration. Learners are welcome to attend the many Continuing Medical Education programs developed by the group. Group research interests include Physician Stress and Strategies, Peace Through Health, and Trans-Disciplinary Care
